Want to be a spiderman?

HAVE YOU ever imagined the world, where we can walk on walls like spiderman? The dream to become the superhero, spiderman may come true now.

From years, scientists have been trying to develop a man-made version of the toe hair that make a lizard’s acrobatic feat possible.

Research tells us that geckos and spiders have tiny hair on their body, which enables them to scuttle up wall and hang from ceilings. In the new study, Cal researchers designed the adhesive with microfibres made from stiff polymers.

The Van der waal’s force develops when molecules are brought together and thus generate Van der waal’s energy. This energy keeps the microscopic hair of spiders or gecko, in contact with the wall. Carbon nano-tube based technology could be used to develop nano molecular hooks that would function like microscopic Velcro. This detachable adhesive force could be used in conjunction with Van der waal’s force and capillary adhesion.
