Sanjeev Nanda verdict: Too little too late?

SANJEEV NANDA, who was found guilty in BMW hit and run case was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment on September 2, under section 304 (part II) of Indian Penal Code(IPC). Nanda is the grandson of a former navy chief and son of a wealthy arms dealer, he was accused of mowing down six persons including three policemen with a BMW car in Delhi in January 1999.The section 304 (part Ii), under which he is penalised, relates to the death caused by knowledge of rashness and gives maximum ten years of imprisonment.

The case had been pending for five long years, shuttling from from one date to another. Had it been to some layman instead of Nanda, even then, the law would have taken the same amount of time and drag for the final verdict? Instances like these raise a question, whether the Indian law has become lenient towards the rich? Or has it become incapable of judging such cases?
